The pond was founded in 1366 after the order of Charles Ivth.
Its original area was 350 ha, now about 278 ha. The outlet canal (60 m long and 3 m wide) is excavated in the rock.
The water area predominantly serves recreational purposes.
Two little islands Myší and Kachní are ornitological reservations.
